Spiritual State of the Meeting – 2010

In discussing our spiritual state at Penn Hill, we recognize that as a group we are willing to listen, reach out and recognize the spirit in each as the essence of that person. The meeting grows through nurturing all who come to worship with us. We are receptive to all and try to include all in our activities. We remember with fondness those who have gone before us and how their faith helped us grow.

Our First Day School discussions help us share honest feelings as we accept that we are at different levels in our spiritual journey. We stay connected in the many topics we choose to explore. But hope is where we focus on improvement, despite the challenges and troubles often discussed.

We are aware that we are a monthly meeting that includes Eastland Preparative Meeting, which has recently gained a new member, who is a good worker. Between her and a Friend for life we were able to start Quaker Quest that included all of Nottingham Quarter. Our two presenters from Arkansas and Indiana were impressed with the quality of the discussions held. At this writing we are not sure what our next step will be.

We recognize that we should be more involved in our local community and are reminded from 6 Galatians that the spirit is manifested when the Holy Spirit helps us with love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control. The guiding spirit will keep us aware of hope as we quietly go about our social actions and interactions.

Spiritual State of the Meeting – 2009

Little Britain Meeting missed many meetings this year due to snow. That gave some of us a chance to visit other meetings, which gives us a fresh look at our faith. We enjoy emails from a former member who has moved to Costa Rica and sends enlightening messages. We enjoy the fellowship of our small groups in our weekly discussion usually Bible related, but sometimes we discuss pertinent topics of the times.

We are pleased to have a new member and are looking forward to having another join.

We are looking forward to starting Quaker Quest in September.

The Meeting decided to reach out to the community by contributing to the Fuel Fund.

We continue to seek that of God in all and remember that a higher being is there for us to lean on.

Spiritual State of the Meeting – 2008

As we look at our spiritual sate of Little Britain Monthly Meeting, which is made up of Eastland and Penn Hill, we realize the two meetings have much in common, but different experiences. We both use the Evangelical Friends interpretation of the International Sunday School lesson. Eastland continues to have a core group that attends First Day School with a fundamental discussion and only three or four attending Meeting for Worship. Penn Hill uses First Day School for preparation for all to attend Meeting for Worship; we find that our discussions are diverse, as not all agree with the lesson. We recognize the value of listening to all. Over the years we have read many Bible selections that help us understand our Biblical history.

Spiritual State of the Meeting – 2007

When discussing the spiritual state of Penn Hill Meeting for Worship, some Friends feel the quality is excellent. We have welcomed visitors and lost members through transfers and death this year. Our membership is down, growth would help us. Hopefully we will continue to grow spiritually so that our lights will obviously shine when seekers come.

Members of the meeting have been getting to know one of the young men involved with spraying graffiti on the meeting house and other buildings in the community. He is serving his time for Restorative Justice by scraping our metal fence in preparation for painting when the weather permits and doing some care taking on the grounds of Ballance Meeting.
